Interesting Fact: Pendle is well known for England’s most famous witch trial known as the Pendle Witches.
The area of Burnley and Pendle had a key part to play during the textile legacy from the mid-19th century and a big influence from the United States of America and India.
Heritage Centre: Pop in to the local Pendle Heritage Centre where you can learn more about the fascinating history of the area including the archaeology, key families, conservation work and of course; The Pendle Witches.
Pendle Hill: Sitting just a few metres shy of a mountain, isolated in the Pennines is Pendle Hill which provides a great walking trail with stunning 360 views of the area even as far as the coast. As well as the Pendle Witches, Pendle hill is also well known for the barometer experiment by the famous English astronomer, mathematician and natural philosopher: Richard Towneley.
Boundary Mill: For those of who love quality designer wear, Boundary Mill offers a wide choice of original garments and homeware at massively reduced prices. The store provides a calm shopping experience and old school fish and chips at the well-known Banny’s restaurant.
Wycoller: Referred in the Bronte sisters books: Wuthering heights and Jane Eyre; Wycoller Country Park sits on the border of Lancashire and West Yorkshire and provides scenic walking trails which take you back in time including crossing some historic bridges such as the Clam Bridge dating back over 1000 years. Featured in the Bafta winning film: The Railway Children lays the Packhorse Bridge over 800 years old. Built in the 16th century and also known as Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre sits the ruins of Wycoller Hall which can be discovered on foot.
Towneley Hall: Sitting in over 400 acres of beautiful parkland; Towneley Hall dates back to the 14th century and is a grade I listed building with a number of period rooms and arts on display highlighting some key historic events in relation to the area. The grounds not only display beautiful gardens to walk through but also have a number of eye catching structures and outbuildings.
