Interesting Fact: The Lake District is home to Scafell Pike; England’s highest mountain.

As well as being home to England’s highest mountain the Lake District is also England’s largest national park covering 2,362sqm.

Castles: The Lake District is home to many fascinating castles where you can get up close to the stunning architecture and views. Wray Castle; is where Beatrix Potter developed her love for the area whilst staying at this castle.

Ulverston (Stan Laurel home): Situated in Cumbria; the town of Ulverston is famous for the birthplace of comedian Stan Laurel. Whilst the existing childhood home of Stan Laurel still stands on Argyle Street, you can also visit the museum of Laurel and Hardy as well as the Stan Laurel Inn for a traditional beverage.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway: Go back in time travelling through the area aboard a 1950’s steam train.

Kendal: The traditional market town of Kendal offers a wide range of independent shops and cafes some still sitting on cobbled streets. Go back to the 1200’s and you will also have the opportunity to see Kendal castle for how it is today. The countryside surrounding the area has stunning views and lots to offer from walking to adventure sports.

Keswick (Castlerigg Stone circle): Thought to be sitting since 3000BC; Castlerigg Stone Circle Monument like many other stone circles across the UK still hold onto the secret for their mysterious purpose.

The World of Beatrix Potter: Check out The World of the famous Beatrix Potter in Bowness-On-Windermere. The museum brings the writer’s imagination to life giving you the chance to walk through her famous tales.

Lake Windermere: Whilst Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, it is also home to many fresh water fish including Atlantic salmon. The lake is over 10 miles long and offers lots of water activities as well as boat trips around the area.

Rydal Mount & Gardens + Dove Cottage: “I wandered lonely as a cloud…” Home to the famous romantic poet William Wordsworth, Walk the gorgeous gardens before as well as the writer’s home before relaxing in the Old School Room Tea Shop which offers a wide selection of light refreshments. Less than three miles from the gardens sits Dove Cottage where you can get hands on experiencing Wordsworth creativity.

Ullswater: Ullswater lake has attracted and influenced many poets over the years with its stunning surrounding landscape including woodlands, waterfalls and mountain views.

Ravenglass railway + Lakeside railway: Take a step back to the 19th century on-board steam trains which will take you on a journey through the Lake District on a wide choice of carriages.
